Welcome to Audiophilia. We publish honest and accurate reviews of high end audio equipment and music.
All in Miscellaneous
Our writers are lucky to intersect with the gear we do. Even luckier to have the kit in our homes and review it for you. There are numerous requests for reviews that we just do not have the manpower to cover. Imagine the hundreds of pieces we miss?
With that in mind, please take into account our 'winners' and rate accordingly. The equipment chosen is for a list we admire unreservedly. We hope you get a chance to listen to the kit in your system. We loved it in ours.
The finest recordings/performances we listened to this year. We discussed some of the recordings on our social media channels, used them in equipment reviews, reviewed them on YouTube or they received full reviews at Audiophilia. For the latter and YouTube, clicking on the image will take you to the review.
Format and initials of nominating reviewer appear under the selection. The CDs and LPs are available at many online or artist sites (recordings must be released or rereleased in 2020), or, as streamed on Qobuz or Tidal HiFi (available presently in their libraries).

[The fine print: The cartridge setup procedure described here is to be used solely as a guideline, and may not be applicable to all cartridges and tonearms. If the instructions here conflict with those provided by your cartridge or tonearm manufacturer (assuming you’re fortunate enough to get any), follow those from the manufacturer. Furthermore, Audiophilia will not be held responsible for any damage sustained by your cartridge, tonearm, turntable or anyone foolish enough to sneak up on you from behind while following these instructions.]

Last year, we were quite specific as to the wheres, whens and whys and levels of choices. This year, I asked the writers to contribute their favourites for a single list. The equipment must have been reviewed in full for publication in Audiophilia, adhering strictly to our policies and procedures (no show products, no manufacturer visits, reviewed in 2017, etc.). So, the list this year is in alphabetical order, and with no allegiance to topology or type of equipment. As such, they are all Audiophilia Products of the Year 2017. Congratulations to all product manufacturers.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, last year's audiophiliacamp, our annual magazine get together, was cancelled. Sad times, as it's our one time all year where we are all together. 2017 has been much better, circumstantially, so nothing was getting in our way this year.
Usually, it is held at Michael Levy's glorious summer home in upstate New York. Mike used to write for Audiophilia before he became a big shot speaker designer (Alta Audio). Mike and Maryann's custom home is on a large plot of land on a bend on the Hudson River. The night brings fireflies and the distant sound of a train horns on the other side of the Hudson. Truly idyllic.
Because of work (both reviewing and teaching) on an east coast swing, we had to 'suffer' and hold court in Manhattan. Our hosts, Marty and Lillian Appel. Marty is a longtime writer for Audiophilia. They live in a lovely pre war apartment opposite Riverside Park on Riverside Drive. Luckily, Karl Sigman, another of our superb writers, lives in an equally lovely pre war on Riverside, half a block up. Two superb audiophile systems to listen to, steps from each other.
Wow! New York City. Just like I pictured it. With skyscrapers and everythang! With apologies to Stevie Wonder, I could well imagine a person’s initial impression of the Big Apple. Bewilderment and confusion, maybe? For me, there is an excitement that touches just about everything in the city, especially its rich cultural heritage. It’s the only place on earth I feel completely energized while giving me the feeling that I am truly at the center of the world. My many trips to Manhattan have been primarily for music business, so it was with the greatest of pleasure that Andrew Chasin and I found ourselves in NYC for the purely selfish act of promoting Audiophilia Online Magazine and checking out the local scene for “The Trenches” series.
